Alumni engagement for K-12 independent schools

Alumni engagement built for independent schools

Studiously is the only alumni platform that combines native Raiser's Edge NXT sync, native Veracross support, FERPA-aware outreach design for minors, and a live student-to-alumni mentorship network — in one product built specifically for independent K-12 schools, not adapted from a university tool.

Native RE NXT & Veracross sync

Most platforms ask for a CSV export. Studiously connects directly to Raiser's Edge NXT via the SKY API and to Veracross — importing constituents and writing enriched data back in, automatically.

FERPA-aware by design

Alumni contact information is never exposed directly to students. All outreach routes through Studiously's email system — current students reach out, alumni reply from their own inbox, and no raw contact data crosses the boundary.

Built for lean advancement teams

Designed for the one-to-three-person advancement office — not the thirty-person university team. Enrichment, directory setup, and alumni introductions run automatically so your team is not the bottleneck.

Mentorship, not just a donor database

Students search a live directory by industry, employer, and graduation year and send direct outreach — turning your alumni list into an active career resource rather than a static contacts table that only advancement ever touches.

Four things no other alumni platform combines for K-12

Independent schools have been trying to solve alumni engagement with tools built for a different customer. Graduway was designed for universities. Almabase and AlumniFire serve K-12 clients but were not architected for them. None of them connect natively to the systems your school actually runs — and none center the student mentorship use case the way independent schools need.

Studiously is the convergence of four capabilities that independent schools have never found in a single product:

Native Raiser's Edge NXT integration. Most platforms accept a CSV export and stop there. Studiously connects directly to RE NXT via the Blackbaud SKY API — importing your constituents without manual wrangling and writing enriched career data back into dedicated Constituent custom fields once enrichment completes. Your CRM becomes a continuously improving record, not a static snapshot.

Native Veracross support. Schools running Veracross as their student information or development system can sync alumni rosters into Studiously the same way — without CSV pipelines. Veracross and RE NXT schools are both first-class citizens in how the platform is built.

FERPA-aware outreach for minors. K-12 schools are working with a student population that includes minors, and the student-data obligations that come with that. Studiously never exposes alumni contact information directly to students. All introductions route through the platform's email system so the school's privacy posture stays intact regardless of which alumni a student reaches out to.

Student-to-alumni mentorship as the primary use case. University alumni platforms exist to manage donor relationships. Studiously is built around a different job-to-be-done: helping a junior who wants to work in finance find the alum who runs a fund in New York, send a note, and hear back — without the advancement office brokering the introduction manually.

Works with the systems you already run

Studiously connects directly to both major platforms in the independent-school advancement stack — Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT and Veracross — so there are no manual exports, no recurring CSV uploads, and no data that lives only in Studiously and never makes it back to your system of record.

Raiser's Edge NXT — bidirectional

Import, enrich, and write back

Studiously reads your alumni constituents from RE NXT via the Blackbaud SKY API — names, class years, education records, and existing contact data — and builds a searchable private directory. As alumni are enriched, current employer, job title, LinkedIn URL, industry, seniority, location, college, and major are written back into eight dedicated Constituent custom fields. No exports. No re-imports. Your RE NXT records get better automatically.

Veracross — alumni roster sync

Your Veracross alumni, in a live directory

Schools running Veracross as their advancement or student-information system can import their alumni roster into Studiously directly. The same searchable directory, the same opt-out model, and the same alumni enrichment pipeline — without switching platforms or maintaining a parallel CSV workflow. A dedicated Veracross integration page is coming; reach out to discuss your setup.

FERPA-aware by design

K-12 schools are not universities. When students are minors and student records carry strict legal obligations, the way a platform handles the boundary between student data and alumni outreach matters.

Studiously's outreach model was built with this in mind from the start. When a student uses the alumni directory to send a note to a marketing executive or an engineer, that message goes through Studiously's routing system as a school-branded email — and the alumnus receives it in their personal inbox. At no point does the student see the alumnus's email address, phone number, or any contact detail. The reply comes back through the same routing layer and lands in the student's Studiously inbox.

The alumni directory itself shows only non-sensitive professional information: employer, title, industry, college attended, graduation year, and general location. It does not surface personal contact information to students. Every alumnus in the directory also has a one-click opt-out, so any alum who prefers not to be reachable can remove themselves at any time.

This design means the school never becomes the intermediary managing individual introductions — but the student-alumni contact boundary is still respected. The advancement team is not brokering each connection manually, and the school is not exposing alumni contact data in a way that creates compliance risk.

Alumni contact information is never exposed to students

All student-to-alumni messages route through Studiously's email system. Students initiate contact through the platform; alumni reply from their own inbox. No raw email addresses or phone numbers cross the student-facing boundary at any point in the flow.

Built for a small advancement team — not a thirty-person university office

At most independent schools, alumni relations is a one-person job. Sometimes two, occasionally three. The tools that dominate the market were built for institutions where alumni engagement is a department.

The advancement director at an independent school is typically wearing several hats at once: managing donor relationships, running annual giving campaigns, planning alumni events, and fielding student requests for alumni connections — all of it. When alumni engagement software adds to that workload rather than reducing it, it fails.

That is what happened with the platforms that came before. Graduway and Almabase require alumni to create accounts and return to the platform — which means the advancement team has to run a sustained marketing campaign just to keep the directory populated. Schools that went through that experience describe spending enormous time tracking sign-ups rather than tracking relationships, and eventually abandoning the platform with the same problem they started with.

Studiously is designed so that the work happens automatically. Enrichment runs on import. The directory populates from your existing RE NXT or Veracross data. Alumni do not need to create accounts — they reply from their everyday email inbox. The advancement team sets configuration once, and the platform does the ongoing work of keeping the directory current and routing connections.

What your team no longer has to do

Manual CSV exports from RE NXT or Veracross — the sync runs on a connection, not a file.
Marketing campaigns to drive alumni account sign-ups — alumni reply to email, not to a platform.
Brokering each student-alumni introduction manually — students initiate through the directory; you are not in the loop for every message.
Manually updating RE NXT with enriched alumni career data — write-back is automatic once enrichment runs.

What you keep full control over

Which alumni appear in the directory — opt-out controls and visibility settings are yours to configure.
School branding on all outreach emails — messages go out from your school's domain, not a generic platform address.
Student access permissions — you decide which students can use the directory and what they can send.
Visibility into connections and engagement — the admin dashboard shows you what outreach is happening and how alumni are responding.

Student-to-alumni mentorship — not just a donor database

Independent schools have something most universities don't: an alumni base that genuinely remembers its school years, stays connected to the community, and is willing to help current students. Studiously turns that goodwill into actual connections without asking anyone to change their habits.

A student interested in medicine can search the directory by field and reach out to the surgeon who graduated fifteen years ago. A student applying to a creative writing program can find the alum working at a publishing house in New York. A student considering consulting can connect with the class of 2012 alum now at a Big Four firm. None of that requires the advancement office to hand-hold the introduction. The student finds the right person, sends a note through the platform, and the alum hits reply from their everyday email.

This is the use case that distinguishes Studiously from every other alumni platform in the market. Graduway, Almabase, and AlumniFire are all, at their core, alumni community platforms — built to get alumni logging into a portal, updating profiles, and eventually converting to donors. Studiously is built around a different question: how does a current student get useful career advice from someone who actually went to their school?

The alumni database is not just a fundraising asset. It is a living network of people who know what your school produces, share a common experience with every student in the building today, and are — by and large — glad to hear from a student reaching out for genuine guidance. Studiously makes that network accessible without requiring alumni to maintain a profile on yet another platform they will stop checking after a week.

Searchable by career field

Students filter the directory by industry, employer, role, college, and graduation year — so they reach the right person for their specific question, not a random alum from a mass list.

Alumni reply from their inbox

No account needed, no app to download, no portal to log into. The alum gets a school-branded email and hits reply. That is the entire action required of them.

Every alumnus reachable from day one

Studiously uses an opt-out model — every alum in your database is in the directory from the first day you go live. There is no sign-up campaign, no waiting for adoption, no 10% participation rate after two years.

What advancement directors ask us most

Does Studiously work with Raiser's Edge NXT?
Yes. Studiously has a native, bidirectional integration with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT via the SKY API. It imports your alumni constituents to build a searchable directory, then writes enriched career data — current employer, job title, LinkedIn URL, industry, seniority, location, college, and major — back into RE NXT Constituent custom fields automatically. There are no manual CSV exports. See the full Raiser's Edge NXT integration page for a walkthrough.
Is Studiously FERPA-compliant for K-12 schools?
Studiously is designed with K-12 student-data rules in mind. The student-facing alumni directory shows only non-sensitive professional information and keeps all alumni contact details private behind Studiously's email routing. Students initiate outreach through the platform; alumni receive a school-branded email and reply from their own inbox. Alumni contact information is never exposed directly to students at any point in the flow.
Do alumni have to create an account or download an app?
No. When a student reaches out, the alumnus receives a school-branded email in their everyday inbox and simply hits reply — no account creation, no password, no app download required. Only the school's students and administrative users log into the Studiously platform.
What if we use Veracross instead of Raiser's Edge NXT?
Studiously supports Veracross in addition to Raiser's Edge NXT. Schools on either platform can import their alumni roster and use the full directory and mentorship features. Reach out to discuss your Veracross setup — the workflow is tailored to how Veracross schools manage their advancement data.
How long does it take to go live?
From first sync to a fully live alumni directory with enriched profiles takes approximately 14 days. Days 1–2 cover data sync and audit, days 3–8 are enrichment, and days 9–11 are directory build and launch. Students can begin using the directory on day one of launch.
