Alumni engagement built for independent schools
Studiously combines Raiser's Edge NXT import and write-back with direct Veracross alumni-roster import, privacy-controlled outreach for minors, and a live student-to-alumni mentorship network — in one product built specifically for independent K-12 schools, not adapted from a university tool.
Direct RE NXT & Veracross connections
Studiously imports alumni records directly from both systems. RE NXT supports selected write-back through the SKY API; Veracross supplies the roster while career enrichment is handled separately and returned by CSV.
Privacy controls by design
Alumni contact information is never exposed directly to students. All outreach routes through Studiously's email system — current students reach out, alumni reply from their own inbox, and no raw contact data crosses the boundary.
Built for lean advancement teams
Direct roster import, batch enrichment review, directory search, and inbox-based alumni replies reduce repeated research and manual brokering while keeping the school in control.
Mentorship, not just a donor database
Students search a live directory by industry, employer, and graduation year and send direct outreach — turning your alumni list into an active career resource rather than a static contacts table that only advancement ever touches.
What makes Studiously different
Four capabilities combined for K-12
Independent schools have often had to adapt broad community platforms to a smaller advancement team and a student mentorship use case. Studiously starts from that K-12 operating model: a private directory, low-friction outreach, data enrichment, and integrations with the systems independent schools already use.
Studiously brings four capabilities into one independent-school workflow:
Direct Raiser's Edge NXT integration. Studiously connects through the Blackbaud SKY API, imports alumni constituents, and can write accepted enrichment data into supported destinations after an administrator reviews field mappings, permissions, and conflicts.
Native Veracross support. Schools running Veracross as their student information or development system can import alumni rosters into Studiously directly — without a CSV for the initial pull. Veracross and RE NXT schools are both first-class citizens in how the platform is built. Veracross provides the alumni roster, not employer or job-title data; Studiously enriches those career fields separately and returns a reviewable CSV for manual import.
Privacy-controlled outreach for minors. K-12 schools are working with a student population that includes minors, and the student-data obligations that come with that. Studiously never exposes alumni contact information directly to students. All introductions route through the platform's email system, reducing direct disclosure while each school applies its own access rules, privacy policies, and legal requirements.
Student-to-alumni mentorship as the primary use case. University alumni platforms exist to manage donor relationships. Studiously is built around a different job-to-be-done: helping a junior who wants to work in finance find the alum who runs a fund in New York, send a note, and hear back — without the advancement office brokering the introduction manually.
Integrations
Works with the systems you already run
Studiously connects directly to Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT and Veracross for alumni import. RE NXT supports selected API write-back; Veracross supplies the base roster and receives enriched career updates through a reviewable CSV workflow.
Import, enrich, and write back
Studiously reads alumni constituents from RE NXT through the Blackbaud SKY API and builds a searchable private directory. After enrichment review, accepted employer, title, LinkedIn, taxonomy, location, and education fields can be written to supported RE NXT destinations. Administrators approve scopes and field mappings, and conflict handling protects existing values.
Your Veracross alumni, in a live directory
Schools running Veracross as their advancement or student-information system can import their alumni roster into Studiously directly. The same searchable directory, the same opt-out model, and the same alumni enrichment pipeline — without a CSV for the initial roster import. Because Veracross does not expose career fields through this API, enriched employer and job-title updates return as a CSV for manual import. See the Veracross integration guide for scopes and setup.
For a detailed walkthrough of RE NXT import and controlled write-back — including field destinations, permissions, and conflict handling — see the Raiser's Edge NXT integration page. For the matching, confidence, human-review, and refresh process, read the alumni data enrichment methodology.
Privacy by design
Privacy controls by design
K-12 schools are not universities. When students are minors and student records carry strict legal obligations, the way a platform handles the boundary between student data and alumni outreach matters.
Studiously's outreach model was built with this in mind from the start. When a student uses the alumni directory to send a note to a marketing executive or an engineer, that message goes through Studiously's routing system as a school-branded email — and the alumnus receives it in their personal inbox. At no point does the student see the alumnus's email address, phone number, or any contact detail. The reply comes back through the same routing layer and lands in the student's Studiously inbox.
The alumni directory itself shows only non-sensitive professional information: employer, title, industry, college attended, graduation year, and general location. It does not surface personal contact information to students. Every alumnus in the directory also has a one-click opt-out, so any alum who prefers not to be reachable can remove themselves at any time.
This design means the school does not have to broker every individual introduction. The routing layer keeps direct alumni contact details out of the student-facing experience, while the school remains responsible for its access, communication, privacy, and legal requirements.
Alumni contact information is never exposed to students
All student-to-alumni messages route through Studiously's email system. Students initiate contact through the platform; alumni reply from their own inbox. No raw email addresses or phone numbers cross the student-facing boundary at any point in the flow.
Right-sized for your team
Built for a small advancement team — not a thirty-person university office
At most independent schools, alumni relations is a one-person job. Sometimes two, occasionally three. The tools that dominate the market were built for institutions where alumni engagement is a department.
The advancement director at an independent school is typically wearing several hats at once: managing donor relationships, running annual giving campaigns, planning alumni events, and fielding student requests for alumni connections — all of it. When alumni engagement software adds to that workload rather than reducing it, it fails.
Community platforms usually depend on members registering and returning to a portal. Studiously takes a roster-first approach: the school can review and configure its private directory before asking alumni to create accounts, and an alumnus can reply to student outreach from email.
The directory starts with existing RE NXT or Veracross alumni records. Enrichment runs in controlled batches, potential matches are reviewed, and accepted fields follow the configured delivery path. Alumni do not need an account to reply to an introduction from their inbox, while the advancement team keeps control over access, visibility, and updates.
What your team no longer has to do
What you keep full control over
The core use case
Student-to-alumni mentorship — not just a donor database
Independent schools have something most universities don't: an alumni base that genuinely remembers its school years, stays connected to the community, and is willing to help current students. Studiously turns that goodwill into actual connections without asking anyone to change their habits.
A student interested in medicine can search the directory by field and reach out to the surgeon who graduated fifteen years ago. A student applying to a creative writing program can find the alum working at a publishing house in New York. A student considering consulting can connect with the class of 2012 alum now at a Big Four firm. None of that requires the advancement office to hand-hold the introduction. The student finds the right person, sends a note through the platform, and the alum hits reply from their everyday email.
This is the use case that distinguishes Studiously from every other alumni platform in the market. Graduway, Almabase, and AlumniFire are all, at their core, alumni community platforms — built to get alumni logging into a portal, updating profiles, and eventually converting to donors. Studiously is built around a different question: how does a current student get useful career advice from someone who actually went to their school?
The alumni database is not just a fundraising asset. It is a living network of people who know what your school produces, share a common experience with every student in the building today, and are — by and large — glad to hear from a student reaching out for genuine guidance. Studiously makes that network accessible without requiring alumni to maintain a profile on yet another platform they will stop checking after a week.
Searchable by career field
Students filter the directory by industry, employer, role, college, and graduation year — so they reach the right person for their specific question, not a random alum from a mass list.
Alumni reply from their inbox
No account needed, no app to download, no portal to log into. The alum gets a school-branded email and hits reply. That is the entire action required of them.
Roster-first coverage before sign-ups
Eligible alumni records can be included at launch without waiting for account creation, subject to the school's visibility rules, exclusions, opt-outs, and available contact route.
