What does Studiously pull from Veracross?
Studiously pulls only the alumni roster information your school authorizes. Those fields establish identity, reachability, school history, and the population that may enter the private directory.

The roster remains the school's source-defined population. Studiously does not use the connection to widen that population beyond the scope, visibility rules, and exclusions your school approves.
Veracross describes its Partner Network and open API as a way for schools to connect approved software and services. Studiously's use is narrower than the API's general capabilities and follows the direction described on this page.

What does Veracross not provide?
Veracross does not expose employer or job-title fields through the API Studiously uses. Employer, title, industry, college, and LinkedIn profile are therefore enriched separately from professional data sources. They are not treated as Veracross fields.
Studiously compares name, school, and class year evidence when matching an existing alumni record. Confidence and conflict gates determine whether a proposed match can move forward. Uncertain matches go to human review, and raw provider results are preserved for audit.

Roster and identity fields come from Veracross. Career and education fields are enriched separately, with the evidence behind each field available to the person reviewing it.

Studiously does not write back to Veracross via the API. That boundary keeps the SIS change decision with your school and prevents enrichment from being mistaken for a Veracross-sourced value.
Two systems, distinct roles
Can Veracross and Raiser's Edge NXT work together?
Yes. Your school may use Veracross as its SIS and Raiser's Edge NXT as the advancement CRM and system of record. Studiously can import the alumni roster from either source, depending on the boundary your school chooses during setup.
The return path is different. The Raiser's Edge NXT integration supports administrator-controlled write-back to school-approved mapped destinations. An administrator selects records and fields, and a different non-empty mapped value becomes a conflict for review instead of being overwritten. That API write-back applies to Raiser's Edge NXT only, not Veracross.
From records to relationships
What does the student-to-alumni layer add?
Studiously turns the authorized roster into a private, school-controlled directory that students and staff can search by school-approved professional information. A student writes inside the directory, and Studiously delivers the message to the alumnus's ordinary inbox from a school-branded address.
The alumnus replies from that inbox. Alumni need no account, app, or login, including no Veracross login. Neither side sees the other's personal email. Alumni have a one-click opt-out, and the school can see every conversation.

Use the Veracross setup guide to authorize the connection and document the roster, visibility, and review boundaries.
- Confirm the alumni population and any class-year or constituent exclusions.
- Authorize the names, emails, class years, and locations needed for the directory.
- Choose which professional fields students and staff may search or view.
- Name the data owner who will review the returned CSV and control manual re-import.
- Define how opt-outs and other school-specific privacy rules will be handled.
Personal email addresses stay behind the outreach layer rather than appearing in the student directory. The school controls access, scope, visibility, and exclusions before records are enriched or made searchable.
